The Suzi Duncan Scholarships are so named in recognition of the courage, skill and determination of a woman (Suzi) who faced the challenges of childhood polio and went on to become a flying instructor. She initiated the concept of Wheelies with Wings and improved a hand control design for Piper aircraft which made it possible for people with lower limb disability to fly those aircraft. In the early days Suzi personally raised significant funds to support participation with Wheelies with Wings. As a qualified instructor, she was gave flying training to a number of disabled people. Suzi no longer is involved but her legacy remains.
